My name is Alison Zywicki and I am a Michigan Photojournalist. I am a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Photojournalism, along with minors in Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts and Multimedia Design.
During my time at CMU, she has worked with CMLife and the University Communications photographing events and people on and off campus. In addition, I worked as a photographer with Girls on the Run and also have a freelance business taking senior and family portraits.
One of the best and most rewarding experiences I had was working with world-renowned photojournalism, Danny Wilcox Frazier during an intensive 1-week documentary photography workshop. During this time, I worked with a family and church in Detroit that hopes to build racial reconciliation in their communities.
After graduation, in 2018, I interned in Israel for 2.5 months working as a videographer/photographer and with social media for an NGO, Bar Kayma for Culture, Art, Music, and Peace. When I returned I freelanced with CandG Newspapers and gained a handful experience in high school sports photography and city council events.
Currently, I have relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a digital communications internship with the Grand Rapids Sport and Social Club.
The way I look at photojournalism is all about capturing moments To showcase a true and authentic moment is more important to me than anything because it describes the story in the best way possible. I have a love for working with different lighting and really working a scene, taking photos at times from nontraditional angles to showcase various ways people could be viewing this moment, this is in hopes that people can put themselves in the photograph and feel like they were truly there.
My dreams for a future career are to either work as a music/concert photographer for a publication or photograph for an organization called, Photographers Without Borders. In addition, I also have an interest in commercial, news and fashion photography. So, I know that no matter where I end up, if I am using my camera and I am doing what I love, I will be happy and successful.
Throughout this portfolio, you will see work from my time at CMU, both published in CMLife or online with Central Michigan University Communications, work from my courses, work from my internship in Israel, and work from freelancing with CandG News. This is only a short handful of the work I can provide and I hope it showcases to my love for this field.
